Lagos Vows To Complete Ejigbo Jetty

Governor Ambode

The Lagos State Government has given a strong assurance that the Ejigbo Jetty built in 2014 would be completed and put to use before June, 2018.

The pledge pledge made was on behalf of the state by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode on Community and Communication, Kehinde Bamgbetan.

He said the jetty was among the projects penciled down for execution by the state government in the next fiscal year.

Bamgbetan, a former chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) gave the hint during the foundation laying ceremony of a new school at Ilamoshe.

The Special Adviser under whose administration as Chairman of the Council the jetty was built said that the Ejigbo Bridge popularly called Faseun Bridge was the only impediment hindering the operation of the jetty.

He however assured that the bridge would be reconstructed early next year to pave way for unhindered access to the ferries.

Also commenting, the chairman, Monsuru Oloyede Bello said the jetty project was not an abandoned one as it is perceived in some quarters.

He said that the council was making moves to ensure that the bridge was reconstructed for the jetty to commence operations.

“I heard people saying that the jetty project is an abandoned project. Let me disabuse the mind of every resident of Ejigbo that the project was done to at least tale pressure away from the road.

“What we are doing right now is to make sure that the Lagos state government moves very fast on the reconstruction of Faseun Bridge. The bridge has been an impediment to the smooth commencement of that project” he said.

Kehinde added that the jetty would be run by a private investor saying that the projects requires a lot of money and that the council cannot afford such amount to fund the project.

“On our own, we are thinking of bringing a private investor because the next level will cost us so much money and we don’t have that kind of money so, we are going to partner with an investor that will run at least 24 hours service on the project” he said.
