The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council has showered encomiums on Nigerian Brewery, Nigeria National Merit Award (NNMA) and Diamond Media Award (DAME) for promoting journalism in the country through encouragement given to media practitioners during their respective annual awards.
The NUJ noted that through the activities of the organizations, a lot of journalists have been encouraged to further show commitment to their duties and selfless service to the nation.
The Union in a statement made available to TheLead Online signed by its chairman, Dr Qasim Akinreti and the Secretary, Alfred Odifa expressed appreciations to the organizations for honouring distinguished journalists covering several segments of the society.
Further to these, Akinreti said, “it is a good thing that we have organizations that are strengthening journalism through their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
“We cannot ask for more as a Union. It is our belief that more organizations will toe their path towards contributing to the growth of journalism in our dear country.
“We are ready to partner with them and other organizations to strengthen professionalism in the media industry. In doing so, we commend the Nigerian Brewery, NNMA, DAME and others that are helping to encourage our members.
“Let me say that the NUJ particularly at the level of Lagos Council, our doors are opened for consultation and collaboration that will bring about symbiotic relationship between us and every organization willing to contribute to the promotion of quality journalism in the nation.”
The Chairman added that: “Apart from applauding the organizers of the awards, we had written commendation letters to all our members that were singled out for awards in the recent times. We will stop at nothing to promote the goodwill of our profession and corporate establishments that key into our developmental and integrity vision.”
