An officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) identified as Musa. M. M, an Assistant Superintendent of Customs narrowly escaped death from the hands of smugglers at Idiroko axis, Ogun State after being attacked with matchete as gathered by the TheLead Online.
He was said to have been hacked at his duty post on Wednesday while attempting to halt the smuggling spree of the smugglers. The officer is receiving treatment at the National Orthopedic Hospital Lagos.
The victim’s left wrist was almost cut off in addition to another deep injury below his left shoulder.
He was part of a joint patrol team of officers drawn from the Ogun Command and Federal Operations Unit roving around Ibeji River, Idogo Ifoyintedo where they were ambushed at about 9am on Wednesday.
His attackers were resisting the seizure of a Toyota Highlander with chassis number STDJKRFHES059484. Other officers also sustained varied degrees of injuries. The vehicles was successfully seized and driven to the Ogun Customs office at Idiroko .
Abdullahi Maiwada , Customs Public Relations Officer for Ogun Command who confirmed the incident, disclosed that efforts are being made to save the life of the injured officer while moves were on to arrest the attackers .
