Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), Federal Operation Unit, Zone A Ikeja, between May 16 and June 12, 2018 put paid to smugglers attempts to rip the Federal Government of a total of One billion, three hundred and forty five million, five hundred and seventy two thousands, three hundred and thirteen naira (N1, 345,572, 3130).
According to Comptroller of the Unit, Mohammed Uba, similarly N59, 506, 773.25 recovered from underpayment making a cumulative of N1, 405,079,086 being the total sum of goods intercepted and duty paid value on seized vehicles within the period under review.
Speaking with journalists at his office he explained that a total of 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the seized item.
He reiterated the commitment of the unit to frustrate smuggling at all cost and urged the public to continue to provide useful information that could lead to arrest of more smugglers.
The detained items included 15 exotic cars, 3 Toyota CHR (2018 models), Toyota Camry LE (2018), Toyota Prado (2018), Toyota Hilux (20170 model, Ford F150 (20170 MODEL, Pajero Jeep (2017), Mercedes Benz 2017, Ford F150 2017 and others.
Also 9,049 bags of foreign rice parboiled rice in 15 trailers, 1,464 cartoons of frozen poultry products, 870 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 273 bales of used clothing and 592 pieces of used tyre were seized.
The customs unit also apprehended four containers containing different contraband good for false declaration.
