National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Waheed Odusile and Vice President B Zone, Cosmas Oni on Saturday at the Congress of the union in Lagos picked forms to recontest their positions.
At the well attended event was the Secretary of the NUJ Credentials Committee, Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde, who was the immediate past secretary of Lagos NUJ.
Others in attendance were Chairman of Ondo State NUJ, James Sowole and his Oyo State counterpart, Adewunmi Faniran.
The National Delegates Conference of the NUJ takes place in Abeokuta, Ogun state in September this year.
Speaking, the presiding officer of the congress and chairman of Lagos NUJ, Dr Qasim Akinreti said the occasion was symbolic saying “as you all know the President of the NUJ is from our council and today he has decided to pick the nomination.”
Akinreti was however quick to add that the occasion was not a campaign ground the aspirants.
He said whenever the veil on campaign was fully lifted every aspirant would be allowed to address the Lagos Congress.
Sowole who handed over the form to the president said he does so as a representative of the South West in the credentials committee.
Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde currently serves in Edo State as a General Manager of a Radio Nigeria station in the state.
Also the Vice President of B Zone of the Union Cosmas Oni was handed the form by Faniran who said he was in Lagos to witness the occasion.
Odusile while commenting on state of the nation advised the Presidency and the legislative arms of government to close ranks and work for the good of the nation.
He urged the national assembly to consider the budget on time and equally give approval of funds to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the 2019 polls a speedy passage.
