The Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director of TheLead Publications, publisher of TheLead Online and TheLead Magazine, Ajibola Abayomi has emerged as the pioneer President of Forum for Migration Journalists (FOMIJ).
The organisation is an international body for editors and media practitioners with passion for migration issues.
He emerged at the inaugural meeting of the group held in Lagos on Tuesday.
Ajibola, the Convener of the forum is a graduate Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State (former Ogun State polytechnic) where bagged Higher National Diploma (HND).
He had both post graduate diploma and master degree from Samuel Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomosho in management science and business administration respectively.
The widely traveled journalist is also an alumni of University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Pan-African University, Lagos where he acquired Diploma in English for Professionals and Certificate in Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills.
Ajibola, has worked with several media outfits that include Muiti-channel Cable Television, National Outlook, National Mirror, Independent, Nigerian Tribune, and Blueprint newspapers where he rose through the ranks.
According to the former Saturday News Editor of Independent newspapers, FOMIJ was a child of necessity aimed at advocating migration challenges and proffering solutions in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
The body also resolved to hold an international conference on migration before the end of the year to bring together various stakeholders.
Speaking with TheLead Online, the FOMIJ leader said with the quality of journalists in the group, Africans would benefit immensely from its inputs.
“We have accepted the responsibility. Days from now, we shall role out our action plans, top on our agenda is the hosting of international conference before the year runs out.
“We won’t deviate from the goal of serving humanity by telling the positive stories of Africa while we address migration as a topic.
“I was glad that fellow journalists across Africa were enthusiastic about FOMIJ. Together we can make the difference” said the president.
Muse Omokayode of Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy was also appointment as secretary for the meeting.
