Injured President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son, Yusuf, has been flown abroad (to Germany) on Thursday morning for medical treatment, but against the counsel of the doctors attending to him.

He was involved in a bike accident at Gwarinmpa in Abuja on Tuesday night, was treated at Cedacrest Hospital where he had surgery for a broken limb and a severe head injury.

TheLead Online gathered from sources that contrary to the reports, Yusuf has been in a critical condition and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

It was gathered that the decision to fly him abroad was not fully supported by the doctors at Cedacrest who counseled that he be allowed to stabilise before the trip explaining that it could be dangerous to move him out of the ICU.

Unsatisfied and worried about his status, the President’s family, supported by some of the family doctors, went ahead with its plans and got an air ambulance to convey Yusuf to a German hospital.

Sources confirmed that he was driven to the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport, Abuja, amidst tight security in an ambulance with oxygen support. He was then transferred into an air ambulance under the care of a Nigerian doctor and three paramedics.

However, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in a text message on Thursday in Abuja, said Buhari was still being treated at a private hospital in Abuja.

Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly unhappy with his security officials, for allowing his son, Yusuf, leave home at 8pm on Tuesday for power-bike racing.

Yusuf was reportedly racing with a friend when in an attempt to overtake a vehicle, he skidded off the road, sustaining injuries that made him unconscious.

“From the way the president spoke, it appears the security aides are in trouble. He spoke angrily. The Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd); his FCT ministry counterpart, Alhaji Mohammed Bello; and the Senate President’s wife, Mrs. Toyin Saraki; stayed throughout the night of Tuesday till Wednesday at the hospital with Hajia Aisha Buhari.

“While the doctors were working to stabilise him, Dambazau kept appealing to the doctors to do everything possible to stabilise Yusuf, saying the president would find it very difficult to bear the pain if anything happens to his son.”
