Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council on Thursday at its Secretariat in Iyalla, Alausa-Ikeja hosted a member of the Union, Eniola Ajayi, who had been offered admission to study at the Stanton University, Garden Grove Boulevard, United States of America.

He is a staff of Voice of Nigeria (VON), a chapel of the Union.

Eniola who was recommended for the two-year course by the Chairman of Lagos NUJ, Dr Qasim Akinreti was one of the selected few among millions of candidates across the globe that applied to study Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at the prestigious university.

Commending the scholar, the elated NUJ chairman said, “it was a thing of joy that one of our colleagues has made it to the God’s own country to study.

“When he came asking for recommendation letter to back his application weeks ago, I have no doubt in my mind that he would make it because I have always known him to be a committed and responsible Journalist.

“This is another evidence of our regime’s commitment to support any aspiring Journalists to achieve their goals. We are poised to show case the intellectual side of our Union and Eniola has made us proud.”

Also speaking, the Deputy Director of News, VON, Austeen Elewodalu said, “Eniola would be greatly missed by our organization because of his diligence to duties. When he joined us in 2012, I underestimated his potentials and I reluctantly posted him to Governor’s office as our Correspondent.

“Low and behold, when he started turning in his copies, I was baffled. He is full of energy to extent that he sends up to five different stories in a day that doesn’t need the input of any Editor because he writes clean copy.

“In fact his work rate is so encouraging that sometimes I thought he had put in over 10 years as staff of VON. We are happy for him. I am sure he will be a good ambassador of the country in America.

Adding his voice to the encomiums, General Manager of Radio Nigeria One on 103.5 FM, Korede Ogunbunmi said, “I have known him to be a workaholic. I am not surprised that he is proving the stuff he is made of.

“Eniola belongs to the class of ambitious Journalists that will go to places in this profession. Please accept my congratulations.”

The Assistant Secretary of VON Chapel, David Adekunle noted that “testimonies here today need are not exaggerations. Eniola’s feat is a justification of the confidence we have always reposed in him as a brilliant colleague.

“When he lost out during our chapel election, he never knew that a greater feat was awaiting him. This is a reward for your hard work. We can only urge you to do more. The sky is your limit” he said.

Accompanied by his wife, Adeola while responding, Eniola a graduate of Mass Communication,  thanked members of the Union especially Dr Akinreti whom he said encouraged him to apply for the programme and pledged to focus on his study in America.

“Let me appreciate everyone for all you have said about me especially Dr Akinreti whom we looked up to as a role model having won several scholarships abroad.

“As part of my contribution to this Union, I will also be on the lookout for institutions we can liaise with to partner with the NUJ to train of our members in America soon.”

The event was attended by several journalists, including the Secretary of the Lagos NUJ, Mr Alfred Odifa.
