The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council has paid a courtesy call on the former Lagos State Governor Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande ahead of his 89th birthday slated for 23rd of July.
Chairman of the Union, Dr Qasim Akinreti on Thursday at the residence of the ex- governor congratulated him ahead of the occasion and stated that the Union would play a symbolic role at the event.
Akinreti said the Union owed him a debt of gratitude in several ways.
Jakande who was a journalist during his tenure empowered the Lagos NUJ in several ways part of which included a donation of a multi billion naira property tagged NUJ Light House located at Victoria Island.
“We are going to mobilse both the foreign and local media to cut the 89th birthday cake with Baba Jakande and we shall also re-launch the book the Lagos NUJ wrote on him” the chairman pledged.
An elated Jakande prayed for the success of Dr Akinreti and members of the union saying, “My prayer is that all of you will live to the fullest of your time. I thank you people for this visit. You are free to identify with me at anytime. This is your home.”
Also speaking at a separate meeting, his Chief Press Secretary while in office, Prince Bayo Osinyemi thanked the Lagos NUJ for the visit and urged the NUJ to continue to be the rally point for media practitioners in the nation.
