The dejected driver looked sober and his defence fell flat when he was confronted by the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Immoni Edgal at the Police State Command Headquarters, Ikeja when he as paraded with other suspected criminals.
Igwe Ejike, the driver was apprehended with his truck and conductor on June 29 by the team of policemen attached to the Trade-fair Division while on a stop and search operation.
The police squad intercepted the Scan-220 truck with registration number FST-45OD loaded with 30 cartoons of Tramadol 100mg capsule canceled under motor parts.
Hear the driver: “please am not the owner of the goods. I don’t know what they put inside. No be me pack am. My duty is just to deliver the thing.”
The Lagos CP minced no words in replying him immediately and insisted that “if you claim you don’t know what was inside your vehicles before you drove it then take us to the owner. We won’t leave you. You are liable and you will face the law.”
The police boss said despite how carefully the drugs were concealed, the eagle eyed police operatives were able to detect the illegal consignment.
Investigation showed that Igwe lives at number 2, Green Land Street, Olorunshogo, Badagry. His conductor one Stephen Osita was also picked up.
“Let me reiterate that the command will not rest on its oars until our street are rid of hard drugs.
“The reward for hard work is hard work. Our children must receive be saved from the evil effects of illicit drugs. Definitely all the suspects will have their day in the court of law” said the police commissioner.
