Contrary to the claim by the Lagos State Police that former Lagos Assembly Speaker, Jokotola Pelumi conspired with some alleged cultists to murder a police officer at Agbowa, Lagos State on October 30, the politician has rubbished the allegation leveled against him.

He gave the account of his own side of the story on Tuesday while addressing press men at his office in Lagos.

The legal practitioner who gave a detailed gory account of the incident said the police officers that invaded his home without search warrant  vadanlised property worth millions of naira and made away with $10,000 and additional N38, 000 apart from valuable jewels yet to be estimated.

He and six others were arraigned over alleged murder of Police DSP on October 30, 2018 before an Ebute Meta Magistrates court over the alleged murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police,  Akindele Akingboju on October 30, 20186

While Pelumi was arraigned for aiding the escape of some suspects in the crime, the six other persons were arraigned for the murder of the police officer.

The police in the charge accused the former Speaker of receiving into his home, a prime suspect Adekunle Dabiri, who was alleged to have taken part in the murdered of  DSP Akindele.

The prosecution said the other  accused persons conspired among themselves to murder DSP Akindele of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command Pelumi pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted  bail by Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo in the sum of N1million with two sureties.

The magistrate also directed that one of the sureties must  be a member of the State House of Assembly.

The magistrate however ordered the remand of the other accused persons at the Ikoyi Prison, pending legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions. She adjourned the case until November 26, 2018 for mention.

Narrating his ordeal,  Pelumi  explained that he knew nothing about the incident as he was in his house on the fateful after taken his bath before the police officers from Lagos Special Anti Robbery squad came with live ammunitions and cutlasses to harm him and members of his family.

“There was a party in the neighborhood about two streets away from my house at Agbowa. I was not at the scene of the incident nor do I know what transpired.

“When noise broke out in the neigbohood that a police officer was killed somewhere around the party, I was indoor. Infact I was to attend the party but I could not because of the prevailing situation.

“My two cousins, Kazeem Qadri and Dekunle Dabiri who attended the party had to rush home and I warned them that they should stay indoor afterwards when everybody was running for their lives.”

The lawyer who was heavily wounded said the police men trouped into his compound by scaling the fence and began to destroy his belonging accusing of harbouring criminals.

“It was laughable what the police did by putting guns beside my two cousins and labeling them cultists. That was unreasonable thing to do but I have confidence in the judiciary because we shall get to route of the matter.

“I have been granted bail on self recognition and I thanked the Lagos state assembly for standing by me. As a senior lawyer and leaders in Lagos state it was a shame to the police for acting in a barbaric manner.

“The kinds of lies being peddled around by the Lagos state police were unthinkable. I am not a cultist neither did my cousins or anyone close to me killed any police man.

“Police is a responsible institution but some officers need to borrow themselves brain. I don’t engage in speculation as lawyer but whatever is behind all these would be unraveled at the appropriate time.
