Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Ganiyu Adams has been named as the Patron of Nigeria Supporters Club, worldwide.
The pronouncement was made at his resident on Monday when the President General of Nigeria Supporters Club worldwide, Dr Rafiu Ladipo led other prominent members of the group to present the association’s souvenir to him at his residence in Lagos.
It would be recalled that the immediate past Aare Ona Kakanfo, MKO Abiola was the first pillar of sports in Africa and had a robust relationship with the supporters club during his life time.
Aare Adams, a philanthropist and sports fan had supported many football competitions in the recent years.
In a related development, to mark his first installation anniversary, Aare Adams is set to announce his cabinet chiefs.
In this regard, 17 distinguished Yoruba sons and daughters had been penciled for different chieftaincy titles during the anniversary holding January 10 and 13, 2019.
A committee has been constituted for the event that comprised top personalities from all walks of life and some seasoned journalists.
As part of activities lined up for the anniversary, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council will also present two books in honour of Aare Gani Adams.
The books titled Gani Adams: The 15TH Aare Ona Kakanfo, and Testament on Gani Adams contain his leadership exploits and media collections on his activities over the years.
The chairman of the union, Dr Qasim Akinreti, explained that considering the contributions of Aare Adams to the progress of the nation, particularly regarding the promotion of Yoruba culture, the Lagos NUJ found him worthy of the honour.
“We were not surprised that the Alaafin of Oyo and Yoruba leaders considered Aare Gani Adams worthy of the title of the generalissimo of Yorubaland.
“Given his humility and antecedents, there was no other Yoruba indigene that was qualified for the title than him” Akinreti said.
