Members of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) have given reasons why the group may not participate in the Ondo State Security Summit slated for today.

The Yoruba emancipation association frowned at pseudo and faceless groups hobnobbing with government officials attempting to  defraud Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on the security challenges in the state.

Following the incessant kidnapping, killings and other security treats across the state, the state government will  today, in Akure host the submit.

The summit will involve security agencies, para military, local vigilante group, traditional hunters and militant groups with the intention to curb the dangerous trend and secure the state against herdsmen attacks.

However, the state council of the Aare Onakakanfo Gani Adams led OPC said it has not been contacted by the organisers of the event either as participant or observer being a stakeholder in the state.
In a Press Statement issued by the group in Akure, on Wednesday, and signed by its State Coordinator, Comrade Pius Ogunsanya, OPC said “it becomes necessary to let the governor, organisers of the summit and the general public to know its position as nobody, either within the government or security agencies has contracted or invited the Aare Gani Adams led OPC to participate in the security summit.
“But, to my surprise and members of this noble congress, some unscrupulous elements not known to our congress, and with a strong intention only to fraudulently present a pseudo and faceless groups before the summit as participating members of OPC in order to curry the government favour.
“For the avoidant of doubt, the OPC in the State had for long, since the returned of democratic government in 1999 during the administration of late Adebayo Adefarati to date, and government of Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), remained an integral part of security formation and active participant in the security activities across the state.
“Therefore, in maintaining and retaining such a long time cordial relationship between the state government and OPC, we believe that it sacrosanct on the side of government to liaise directly with the leadership of the congress through it widely known leader and the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Dr. Gani Adams who in turn will command and direct the state council on the level and mode of participation, anything shout of this, we shall never be a part as a loyal and highly discipline group,” Ogunsanya stated.
The Coordinator urged the officials of the state government to be wary of groups, individuals or those parading themselves as volunteers so as not to worsen the situation.
