Customs: 4028 Motherless Children Get 16, 947 Bags Of Rice, 915 oil Jerricans, Others

Motherless babies at an orphanage in Lagos state

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and orphanages Lagos have received rice, vegetable oil and bales of clothing materials from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Chairman of the NCS Sub Committee, Comptroller Yakubu Salihu confirmed that a total of 16, 947 of 50kg bags of rice, 915 Jerricans of 25 litres of vegetable oil each and 242 bales of clothing materials had been distributed to 44 orphanages in the state.

Some of the orphanages include Little Saints Orphanage home, Tender Hearts Children home, Sisters of mother Theresa, Babs el salam and others

The cumulative number of children in these orphanages according to the NCS was put at 4028. The committee said the response had been encouraging and the exercise was going smoothly.

The committee was constituted by the Comptroller General of Customs, Col, Hameed Ibrahim Ali rtd to implement the presidential directive to the Service to extend distribution of the essential items to the less privilege and vulnerable Nigerians.

Further to these, the Customs Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah said the exercise would cover the four zones of the Service and would impact on all identified and verified IDPs and orphanages across the country.
