Former Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu is a socialite and front line Nigeria politician, in this interview with Ngumah Isaac; she speaks about political developments in Nigeria.
Is what is playing out against President Muhammadu Buhari not akin to what happened in 2015 which former President Goodluck Jonathan recently attributed to lies against his government?
I don’t know the kind of falsehood he was talking about. He should have been specific on what was during campaign against his administration. The truth was that Goodluck Jonathan performed below expectation.
Even people that brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power are not also happy with him, won’t that affect his chances during the 2019 general election?
They are not as united as when they came into power. I don’t think when they came together they actually set up an agenda on how power would be shared if they win. That is the major problem.
Some Nigerians are of the view that the president is arrogant and religious fundamentalist who don’t like people from the southern part of the nation…cuts…
I won’t agree with that. He is a man whom God has endowed neither do I see him as arrogant person. If people do not get what they want the next thing is to start criticising and antagonizing. I wouldn’t agree that he is anti south too.
But there are are allegations of corruption against some people in his government that have not been handled?
I wish the investigation cuts across board. It is not as if, if you are a member of his government that you are a saint all those who have allegations against people in Buhari’s government should call for the matter to be investigated. The media too should help to shed more lights on the allegations for the president to address them.
Well there were speculations that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the APC, is planning to contest the 2023 election, what does that portends for the nation?
Anybody in Nigeria who has clouds or what it takes can come up and run for the presidency.
Nigerians are still searching for genuine leader who can take them to the promise land, do you thing are we getting there?
People get the kind of leadership they desire. Most Nigerians want corrupt leadership before the coming of Buhari. If the people want real leaders that will actually serve them the ball is in their court.
Don’t you think that the youths should take charge of leadership in the nation now?
Most of our youths now don’t even know what hardworking is all about because they have this mindset that the system has not been fair to them. Nigerians need massive re-orientation. Under the Buhari’s government, all the loopholes where people were getting easy money most of it had been blocked.
Having left the APC, Atiku Abubarka’s campaign is shaking the ruling APC, don’t you think so?
I wouldn’t agree with that statement that his campaign is shaking the APC because he was a major person stakeholder before leaving the party. But as Atiku left the party, other people also joined. It will be sad if PDP is allowed to come back into power. The party has never apologised for the misruling the nation for 16 years.
What can you say about governance in Lagos State under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode?
Well, things are getting better every day. I hope it doesn’t relent. He has taken community development to the grassroots.
Doyin Okupe once said everyone in government is a thief, how true is that?
I will like to read the full interview of the former spokesman to President Goodluck Jonathan before reacting fully. I want to say that it is not true that everybody who has been opportuned to hold public office stole. I strongly condemned such a position. I wish he had never said so.
