Controller Abba Kura left receiving the handover note fro Assistant Comptroller Bashir Abubarka

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Monday finally witnessed a change of baton as newly promoted Assistant Comptroller of General (ACG) of Customs, Bashir Abubakar handed over to Controller Abba Kura, the new helmsman of the command.

The award winning ACG Abubakar was the immediate past Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa Command.

He was noted for impressive records before his elevation.

Not done with his war against smuggling, at the handover ceremony on Monday, the former CAC announced seizure of 24 containers of tomato paste from smugglers.

Urging officers and men of the command to support the new CAC, he enjoined them to corporate with his successor.

It would be recalled that Abba’s appointment followed the promotion of Abubakar as ACG Headquarters, Abuja by the Customs Comptroller General, Colonel Hammed Alli (rtrd).

Upon his posting to Apapa eight months ago, Abubakar, apart from raising the revenue profile, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations of the command was honoured with the World Customs Organization (WCO) award for exceptional performance.

Parts of his track record included historical seizure of 41 containers of tramadol worth more than N7.3 billion and rejection of N150 million bribe offered his team by the importers of the seized drugs.

Until his appointment, Abba, the new controller was in charge of the Customs Post-Clearance Audit Unit in Zone A Lagos.
