Online Publishers And Editors Set To Inaugurate Professional Body

Leading Online Publishers and Editors on Wednesday converged at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State and resolved to constitute a professional body to strengthen new media in the country.

At the meeting were Clementina Olomu, a  former Thisday newspaper staff and founder of Association of Professional Online Publishers And Journalists In Nigeria (APPJIN); foremost online publisher, Precious Ezea and Damilola Temilola; David Adekunle of Voice of Nigeria (VON) and Ajibola Abayomi, the Managing Editor / Chief Executive Officer of TheLead Publications, the publisher of TheLead Online and TheLead Magazine.

The journalists lamented the rate at which untrained bloggers have painted journalism in bad light in the recent times and urged media bodies to ensure regular trainings were organised for media practitioners to stem the tide

As one of the immediate steps to be taken, the media executives resolved to strengthen APPJIN as platform for professional journalists that were into online journalism.

They also brainstormed on series of programmes aimed at engaging various stakeholders with a view to raise the bar of journalism and economic advancement of the nation in due course.
