On Monday, 22 2019, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) hosted the maiden edition of Easter Celebration for Lagos journalists.
At the event which was held at the Secretariat of Union in Iyalla, tagged ‘1st Easter Get Together Party’, the chairman of the Union, Dr Qasim Akinreti called for religious tolerant among Nigerians.
He said the life of Jesus Christ as stated in the Bible epitomised love and peace.
He called on journalists to shun religious acrimony and embraced unity.
Members of the Union praised the chairman for the novel idea and for fulfilling his campaign promises.
A former chairman of the union, Mr Dele Odebiyi said the NUJ chairman as a Muslim had threw a registered challenged at Christian journalists in the state to maintain the legacy.
Odebiyi who went the memory lane regretted that during his tenure in 1995, the military government under late General Sani Abacha distracted the media community so much that he could not organise such event.
He counselled the media to keep to its tenets and emulate the righteousness of Christ.
Deacon Lekan Otufodurin, former Managing Editor at The Nation Newspapers now Executive Director Media Centre delivered a sermon on Essence of Easter and Nation Building while Pastor Banji Oluwalana, a retired journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) took charge of prayer cum praise and worship session.
