Migration Journalists Want Creation Of NAPTIP States, LG Chapters

Today in Lagos, Nigeria, the International Forum For Migration Journalists (FOMIJ) led by its President, Mr Ajibola Abayomi and the Deputy Secretary General of the body, Kelvin Kagbare pledged support for the anti- human trafficking efforts of the National Agency For Prohibition Of Traffic In Persons (NAPTIP).

After engaging the Lagos State Commandant of NAPTIP, Mr Dan Atokolo who took time to brief the journalists about activities of the agency stating that the body had taken the message of human dignity to the primary schools and communities, Ajibola said FOMIJ was ready to partner the agency to record more successes.

Atokolo who called on  state government in Nigeria to localise the structure of the NAPTIP by establishing a task force at the state level said the agency was ready to ensure that Nigerians were no longer lured into foreign countries through fake promises.

He said unknown to many innocent minds, the master minders of human trafficking always cooked fake  successes stories abroad thereby luring many into prostitution and slavery.

He said all hands were deck to ensure that the message of anti-human trafficking was spread across the nation adding that the agency had implemented several corrective measures to rehabilitate many Nigerians rescued from those that profited from human trafficking that were either facing trial or convicted.

The FOMIJ president expressed readiness of his members in Nigeria to partner NAPTIP in the areas of adequate dissemination of information, training and information sharing.

Ajibola said his colleagues would tasked state and local governments to localise NAPTIP across the nation.
