Breaking News: Nigeria To Commence E-Migrant Registration

In a bid to keep accurate data of foreigners, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to commence e-registration for all migrants.

TheLead Online exclusively gathered that the scheme would be launched by President Mohammudu Buhari soon.

Legal immigration in Nigeria is a serious problem and the border has become quite porous.

Government had informed that there that were 1,497 illegal migration entries to the country and millions were being invested  to secure the border.

Findings reveal that migrants from Niger Republic are the  biggest group of illegal immigrants in the nation.

Any non-citizen of Nigeria, who has or intends to stay in Nigeria for a period exceeding 90 days, is to submit self to the NIS for registration

As we gathered the registration would be in two stages and wouldi involve bio metrics capture of persons  above 18 years as well as dependants.

According to NIS rule: “Where the person is an illiterate or is unable to enter such particulars in a language in common use in Nigeria, he/she shall provide such information to enable the owner or manager to enter such particulars in the register”
