Renowned Benin Republic based educationist and humanist, Dr Shehu-Hammad Yekeen, the President of Associations des Acteurs d’Institution Supérieure Bilingue du Benin (Benin Republic Bilingual Higher Institution Stakeholders Association) has been honored with the African Legendary Leadership Award at the 2021 West African Media Migration Summit in Lome, Togo on June 22, 2021 by the Journalists International Forum For Migration (JIFORM).
JIFORM, a global media foundation with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria comprising over 300 journalists covering migration matters across the continents.
The conference themed Reappraising Media Reportage And Impacts On The West African Economy was organized by JIFORM in partnership with the Organization Pour l’intégration Africaine (OAI), Lome,7,
Ajibola Abayomi, the President of JIFORM said Yekeen, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Lagos State University both in Nigeria where he studied International Relations and International Relations and Strategic Studies at master level was voted for the award because of his contributions to the development of humanity in the area of education and politics.
“As journalists, before electing him for the award, we carried out our due diligence after he was recommended by the members of the JIFORM in Benin Republic. We are proud to say that he is a man that is using his position and God given talents to advance the course of humanity” he said.
The Former Nigerian ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Ambassador Bolaji Alade Akinremi, who represented the Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama at the occasion while presenting the award and the certificate to Yekeen, admonished the Pilgrim University, North Carolina, Doctorate Degree holder in International Relations in 2015 not to relent on his good works being identified.
He said Nigeria was proud of his achievements and enviable records in Benin.
The awardee thanked the organizers of the event and urged the government to work with the media to advance advocacy against irregular migration.
He was accompanied by Dr Isaac Abiodun Ajijola, the Director of Studies of ESCAE University Benin Republic, who reviewed a migration publication by the JIFORM titled Guide To Migration Reportage and his counterpart, Dr Aminu Raimi.
Speakers at the event included member, African Union Labour Migration Advisory Committee and Principal Consultant to the Sierra Leonean Government on migration matters, Dr Princess Asie Kabuki Ocansey from Ghana and Professor Byron E. Price, the Global Director, Diaspora Innovation Institute & Professor of Public Policy and Administration—Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York, USA.
Others were Didger Assogba, Publisher Togo BreakingNews, Mr Yves Aubaud Colibri-Afrique-France, JIFORM WEST African secretary, Biram. S. Jobe from The Gambia, Prince Akinwale Ojomo, the CEO OF Diaspora Innovation Institute, Africa and Debbie Gahan from GepCare Foundation, Dublin Ireland and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ghana.
